AUSTSWIM Teacher Renewal

An AUSTSWIM accreditation™ is valid for 3 years and needs to be renewed prior to the expiry date to remain current. Your expiry date can be found on your AUSTWIM Teacher Licence™.

To renew your AUSTWIM Teacher Licence™ complete the following steps:
  • Step 1 – Complete the Renewal Form
Click here to access a current renewal form.
  • Step 2 - Attach an endorsed passport size colour photograph of yourself
This photograph will be printed on your AUSTWIM Teacher Licence™ for visual identification purposes. An updated photograph will be required every 9 years.
  • Step 3 - Estimate Number of Professional Development Hours
A minimum of 10 hours is to be gained over the 3 year period.

AUSTSWIM recognises that there are vast amounts of professional development opportunities available that would positively contribute to your experience as a teacher, some will be aquatic based and others will not (eg childhood education subjects, communication strategies and legal studies).

Hours can be gained by attending aquatic education courses, conferences, seminars, in-house training and other relevant training courses. All professional development must be accredited or registered with AUSTSWIM. If in doubt please contact AUSTSWIM. It is recommended professional development be undertaken during, not at the conclusion, of your licence period.

Click here for a list of courses that are currently available.

Each individual course/qualification/workshop can only be claimed once in every 3 year period.

Note: CPR does not contribute towards professional development as it is a separate requirement of AUSTSWIM renewal.

You are not required to send in proof of attendance for professional development unless requested to do so through an audit.

Organisations and employers delivering in-house professional development programs relevant to AUSTSWIM teachers™ are eligible to apply for recognition. By having your programs recognised by AUSTSWIM, it enables AUSTSWIM teachers™ to use these professional development hours for renewal purposes. Click here for further information.
  • Step 4 - Estimate Number of Practical Teaching Experience Hours
A minimum of 40 hours is to be gained over the 3 year period.

You must be able to show evidence in each accreditation held (TSW, INF, PWD, TCS, AD) If the minimum of 40 hours of teaching experience over the three-year period has not been met, you have the option to complete a Teaching Competence Assessment. Contact AUSTSWIM to obtain this form.
  • Step 5 - Provide Details of Your Current CPR Certificate
