AUSTSWIM Infant and Preschool Aquatics

AUSTSWIM is re-launching the Infant and Preschool Aquatics course in a new format.  Through an extensive review, AUSTSWIM is making significant changes to the course, its resources and they way in which the course is delivered. A summary of the changes includes:
  • New course manual (in full colour, contains a high percentage of photos and helpful teacher tips)
  • New presenter resources
  • Introduction of an e-learning platform

Swimming and Water Safety Teacher Rescues

During your AUSTSWIM course you would have discussed, practiced and been assessed on rescues applicable to the venue your course was conducted at. This competency assessment is indicative of your skills on the day. It is limited to the depths and specific pool design. Despite thorough planning with the intention to prevent incidents during lessons problems can occur.

Victoria Police and ARV – A Partnership Supporting Youth

Operation Newstart provides selected teenagers with alternative experiences to regular schooling for a term to support them in refocusing and resuming schooling and / or workplace training.
 
Aquatics & Recreation Victoria has formed a partnership with Operation Newstart Eastern 12 months ago providing ‘out of the square’, thought provoking and physically challenging aquatic activities.

2010 Australian Water Safety Conference: Act Today for 2020

Facilitated by the Australian Water Safety Council (AWSC) and supported by Surf Life Saving Australia, Royal Life Saving Australia and AUSTSWIM, the 2010 Australian Water Safety Conference was recently held in Sydney, with its major focus this year being on drowning prevention.
 
Reducing drowning deaths by 50% by 2020 (and by 15% by 2011) is the goal of the Australian Water Safety Strategy (2008-2011), however at the midway point of the strategy's implementation, we have seen an increase in the number of drownings.
