STREAM 2011, the Victorian AUSTSWIM Teacher™ Professional Development day for regional Victoria was held in Sunday 23rd October.  Following feedback from the industry, Summit has been replaced by two professional development opportunities: one regional and one metropolitan day. The aim is to re-focus professional development training needs that are specific to AUSTSWIM Teachers™.

STREAM 2011 allowed aquatic educators to further their knowledge, hear from leading industry professionals and network with colleagues. It was an opportunity to not only enhance knowledge and skills, but also receive the vital professional development hours to maintain the AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence.

Some of the highlights included the practical sessions by Georgine Luscombe on “Breathing and Streamlining” and “Sculling for Strokes”. Georgine provided delegates with new ideas, drills and techniques to teach these vital skills.

Another highlight was the Making Aquatics a Terrific Experience (MATE) Workshop held on Saturday prior to STREAM. Although this was an ‘optional extra’, many delegates enjoyed Maria Burn’s session, all coming away with the knowledge, skills and confidence to accompany people with disabilities in the pool.

We will now build on the success of this year’s program for STREAM 2012. STREAM Metro will be held on Sunday 14th April and STREAM Regional in October.  The venue for STREAM Metro will be announced soon. Visit www.aquaticsandrecreation.org.au for more information.
