Professional Development Workshop Series

The ARV Professional Development Series is an opportunity for AUSTSWIM Teachers™ to learn from industry leaders, to further their knowledge in a range of areas and network with other teachers. It will be a series of four workshops (each approximately 3-4 hours in length) run throughout the year, presented by aquatic education industry leaders. The workshops will all be accredited with professional development hours for AUSTSWIM License Renewal.

Personal Rescue Competencies and Teaching Water Safety Activities in Every Lesson

The underlying message of every swimming lesson should be the importance of safety in and around water. Is this something to struggle to fit into your lesson plan? This session will provide you with simple and practical ideas to effortlessly weave water safety instruction into your regular lesson plan. You will also have the opportunity to revise the basic rescue skills including survival backstroke, sidestroke, and various rescue techniques.

STREAM 2012 - Regional Victoria, Sunday 7 October

Our next AUSTSWIM Teacher Professional Development Day heads out of town once again, with STREAM 2012 Regional to be held in Warragul on Sunday 7 October 2012.

ARV is now calling for Expressions of Interest to speak at STREAM 2012 Regional. You do not need to have presented at a conference before. Perhaps you deliver in-house training on a topic you would like to share with the industry? Perhaps you have an area of special interest or you have completed further study on a topic you could share with other AUSTSWIM Teachers?

Please complete the following Expression of Interest Form and return to ARV by Thursday 31 May 2012 for consideration. If you have any questions or would like more information please contact Gillian Candy on 9271 3800 or email gcandy@aquaticsandrecreation.org.au

Background to 'Stream'

ARV’s Aqua Summit has for many years offered professional development opportunities for Victorian AUSTSWIM Teachers as part of a broader aquatics and recreation industry professional development weekend.

Summit is being replaced by two professional development opportunities to service the industry: one regional and one metropolitan day. The aim is to re-focus professional development training needs that are specific to AUSTSWIM Teachers.

Each day will provide opportunities to update teachers on AUSTSWIM matters including the development of new courses, new resources, whilst providing the registered professional development hours required for AUSTSWIM Teacher Licence renewal.

Teachers will gain from networking opportunities, sharing successful programming outcomes, tips in specific areas of teaching and a taste of revised AUSTSWIM Extension course content.
