The Play it Safe by the Water campaign (PISBTW) commenced in 1998. The annual campaign is supported by the Victorian Government and has linked a number of aquatic-related industries with a common objective of reducing the number of drowning’s in Victoria and increasing the awareness among the Victorian community about water safety.
During Water Safety Week, organisations across Victoria provide people of all ages the opportunity to participate in a range of water safety activities in a variety of environments. The week engages participants of all ages across metropolitan and regional Victoria.
Some types of activities that will be run by facilities include ‘fun days’, a focus on safety and survival skills in swimming lessons, water safety displays, colouring competitions, educational programs and handouts, as well as social media, including entering the special online photo and video competitions hosted by Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV).
