Special Projects

Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV) is at the forefront of a number of major projects and campaigns, many in association with other key agencies in the industry.

Introduced into Victoria in 2008, 'Watch Around Water' has been developed to educate the public about adequate supervision of children at public aquatic facilities and to encourage parent / guardians to take on this responsibility when visiting a facility.  Its delivery in Victoria is a partnership between ARV and Life Saving Victoria.

This program aims to identify individuals at high-risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, and implementing support strategies, such as referral to a Lifestyle Modification Program to prevent or delay the onset of the disease.  Find out more about what this new program is all about, and how the industry is involved in this program.

A joint project between Inclusive Leisure Victoria (formerly VICNORD) and ARV, the 'Inclusive Leisure Initiative' is based on an English program which works strategically to set consistent standards in the leisure industry, thereby assisting leisure centres to become inclusive of all members of the community.

Smart Water Project

This project, to investigate and analyse water usage in aquatic facilities, is nearing completion.  ARV appreciates the support of the Smart Water Fund in the development of industry wide strategies and benchmarks for the efficient use of water.  Keep an eye out for findings from this project, which are expected in the near future.

Play it Safe by the Water Campaign

This campaign, a Victorian Government initiative, aims to increase community awareness of water safety and change Victorian’s behaviour in and around water, by encouraging people to enjoy our beaches, rivers, lakes, bays and pools in the safest possible manner.
