1.  Identify your target market

Think about who you would like to target during this Week.  Is it parents of preschoolers, parents of school aged children, primary students, secondary students, young adults, grandparents, a particular CALD community, people with a disability or a mix of these groups?

2.  Work out your objective for this target market

Work out what type of skills, knowledge and experience you would you like your target market to achieve from participating in your Water Safety Week activity?

3.  Plan your Water Safety Week activity

There are a range of activities you can offer throughout Water Safety Week.  Refer to the Water Safety Activity Guide that outlines these activities.  When you are planning your activity also consider the number of participants you will be able to accommodate.

This year, in addition to your traditional water safety week activities, facilities this year you have the option of photographing or recording their best Water Safety Activity or Display to win some fabulous prizes!

Secondly, there is an exclusive opportunity for schools and facilities to design a free-standing water safety banner/display. The Top 2 facilities will be featured prominently on stage at Federation Square. The Top 3 schools will win some fantastic prizes and also be featured prominently on stage at Federation Square during the Water Safety Week video competition winner’s announcement on December 5, 2011.

4.  Identify the resources required to deliver your Water Safety Week activity

Now that you have planned your Water Safety Week activity please consider if you require extra resources to deliver this activity.

5.  Identify how you will promote your Water Safety Week activity

There are a variety of ways to promote your Water Safety Week activity.  Why not brainstorm promotional ideas with your colleagues and work out the best way to advertise your activity to your target market. (eg. flyers, posters, emails, articles, media releases, etc.)  Also consider the placement of your promotional material, externally and internally.
  • Externally - in local paper, community health centres, retirement villages, older adult programs, local community, schools and preschools
  • Internally – facility foyer, notice boards, newsletter, website and staff
