Curious about mindfulness but don’t know what it is, or how it works?

Join ARV’s Mental Health Clinician/Consultant Adele Bergin for free online sessions

**Please note, registrations for Mindful Mondays in May are now closed. If you are interested in learning mindfulness for youself or your team contact Adele at: abergin@aquaticsandrecreation.org.au***

Mindfulness – the ability to pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment and without judgement – has gained increasing popularity in the sporting world for its benefits in improving focus, concentration, resilience, and helping athletes perform at their best. Athletes such as LeBron James, Novak Djokovic, and Michael Jordan have used mindfulness as part of their mental preparation to stay focused, calm, and present during games, and AFL Teams including Richmond and St Kilda have incorporated mindfulness into their teams training programs.

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to benefit from mindfulness. Research shows that mindfulness-based interventions are effective in helping people to improve concentration, work productivity, interpersonal relationships, sleep quality, and overall wellbeing as well as reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and burnout.

What is Mindful Mondays in May?

Throughout May, ARV’s Mental Health Clinician/Consultant, Adele Bergin, will be hosting free online Mindfulness sessions.

Adele is a registered psychologist with a Master of Clinical Psychology. Adele uses mindfulness practice in her one-on-one sessions with clients, and has previously run mindfulness groups with employees. She is also a published researcher in the field of mindfulness, having published research demonstrating the benefits of mindfulness in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety for people under high stress (read more here: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12671-016-0532-x

What Do the Sessions Involve?

The four sessions will be held on Zoom at 4pm on Monday the 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th of May. The sessions will run for 30 minutes. They are free to members of the aquatics and recreation industry.

The sessions will focus on understanding the principles of mindfulness. Because mindfulness is a skill that is learnt through practice (not just talking about it!), there will be an opportunity for attendees to practice a mindfulness meditation exercise in each session. I encourage attendees to dedicate this time to themselves, and conduct the sessions from a quiet place where they will not be distracted. You are more than welcome to turn off your camera during the sessions. Please note you will not be called upon to discuss your experience.

You will be sent a Zoom meeting invitation on the morning of each session.

What if I Miss a Session?

Each session will focus on a different mindfulness practice, and are designed to be taken in sequence. If you are not able to attend session 1, I am more than happy to do a make up 1:1 session at a time that suits you so you can attend the remaining sessions. Please do not to attend session 4 if you have not attended at least 2 of the previous sessions.

Who Can Attend?

Anyone within the aquatics and recreation industry! Feel free to bring along your team if you would like to use it as a team building exercise. If you think your casual staff may be interested - please feel free to pass on the details as they are also able to attend.
