NEW WAVE OF SWIM TEACHERS INJECTED INTO REGIONAL VICTORIA

Just four short months after the success of the first Swim Australia Teacher (SAT) courses were held in the Albury-Wodonga region in July, now a second opportunity presents for aspiring young swimming teachers to be involved in the growing program.

The second instalment of the course is scheduled for Sunday, December 2 and will call for budding swim teachers looking to teach across four centres in the region – Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre, Wodonga Waves, Lavington Swim Centre and Albury Swim Centre.

When the Swim Australia Teacher program was launched in July, eleven local-residents were accepted to the course to become qualified swimming teachers for children’s swim programs with some participants still continuing to complete the required training hours in time to commence employment in Albury and Wodonga-based centres ahead of the busy Australian summer period.

The course provides a structured pathway for people with a desire to work in the aquatic and leisure industry to gain the required level of theoretical and practical training to be able continue their careers or begin new careers in water safety and swimming tuition.

Aquatics and Recreation Victoria CEO, Grant Connors said he was delighted to announce another scholarship program.

“To be able to offer and conduct a second course is a pleasing result and is testament to the success of the first instalment held in July this year.

The initial VICSWIM scholarship program provided an instant injection into the regional workforce for the local aquatic facilities and we are committed to supporting that endeavour with the announcement of a second program in December.

“There are already some participants from the July course now ready to teach and be offered places in school programs and regular swimming lesson programs which is an extremely positive outcome and vindicates the decision to introduce the program.”

Albury Wodonga Aquatic Facilities again partner with Aquatics & Recreation Victoria to deliver round two of the scholarship offer which will include free enrolment into the swim teacher course at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre to be held on December 2, 2018.

Regional based residents looking to apply for the Vicswim scholarship are to send their applications to Albury Wodonga Aquatic Facilities Head of Swim School Mandy Sawyer indicating their eligibility to be accepted for a scholarship position at mandy.sawyer@alignedleisure.com.au
