Free Onsite Team Training: Preventative Training on Healthy Coping Strategies After a Critical Incident
One of the biggest risk factors to staff mental health within our industry is exposure to workplace aggression, harassment, violence, or traumatic events.
Each of these hazards can place staff at an increased risk of developing, or exacerbating existing, mental health problems.
Employers can, however, help to prevent the effects of exposure to critical incidences by adequately preparing employees. Preparation includes both the ability to respond in the moment and having access to appropriate coping strategies and social support to help after an incident.
To help employers safeguard their employee’s mental health, ARV’s Mental Health Clinician/Consultant, psychologist Adele Bergin, can come to your facility and deliver onsite training for employees called Coping After a Critical Incidence.
This one-hour session will cover:
➡️ common responses employees can expect in the aftermath of a critical incident,
➡️ how to develop healthy coping responses, and
➡️ when to seek support.
Note: this training is designed to help employers meet their legal duty under the Proposed Occupational Health & Safety (Psychological Health) Regulations (https://engage.vic.gov.au/proposed-psychological-health-regulations). Under the Proposed Regulations employers must identify and control for risks to mental health in the workplace – including from exposure to violent or traumatic events.
WorkSafe Victoria identifies training employees in normal responses following a traumatic incident as a risk control action for management of traumatic events. See: https://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/work-related-stress-violent-or-traumatic-events for more risk control strategies.
